  Private Swim Instruction

Have you ever thought to yourself...

I am tired of working so hard at going so SLOW! Can you help me swim faster?

In the open-water, I swim off-course and seem to be always out of breath. Can you help?

I am visiting the Big Island and want to get more than just a tan on my vacation!

Whether you are a beginner, a multi-sport athlete or have been a competitive swimmer for years... in just one or two sessions, Karlyn really CAN teach you how to swim faster with less effort.

For maximum results, all sessions are at least an hour and include:
  • Multiple videotaping clips of your stroke from above and below water
  • Karlyn’s expert analysis of your current technique and how to improve it
  • See your stroke improve and change as the session progresses
  • The video clips are then emailed with verbal commentary of lesson included
  • Detailed handout covering all aspects of the stroke(s)
  • Aquatic Edge cap

Swim in an Endless Pool...the best swim lesson ever!
This will be the most effective and informative swim lesson you will ever experience. Why? Read on...

See your stroke while you swim:
In an Endless Pool you receive INSTANT FEEDBACK from watching yourself swim while you look at the two mirrors located on the bottom of the pool, while being videotaped from above.

Try it all and then YOU decide:
In the Endless pool (EP), Karlyn works with you by comparing and contrasting a variety of techniques to find the style and technique that is right for YOU. After reviewing your comfort in the water, body position and your breathing style, Karlyn begins my teaching you how to become a more self-aware swimmer and the Endless pool is the perfect venue to do so. Think of the Endless pool as a laboratory where you can test just about technique you have seen or read about to find what works, and more importantly...what doesn’t.

You will KNOW you are faster right away:
As your session progresses, the new techniques Karlyn suggests to you will start to feel less “weird” and more normal as you become more comfortable with the “new and improved” stroke. You will also start to swim faster and more efficient RIGHT AWAY. How does Karlyn know you are faster? Because she has secretly turned up the speed of the current up to keep up with your new pace!

Old stroke vs. new...which is faster?:
Near the end of your session, Karlyn will suggest you go back to your “old” stroke. However, keep in mind the current is set at your “new stroke” speed. Can you guess what happens? Since your “old stroke” is probably slower and less efficient you instantly get pushed back to the end of the pool. You will wonder why you even swam that way! Then, go back to your “new” stroke and you will be up to speed in no time.

Learn the “other” strokes: Karlyn can also teach you or work with you to improve your breaststroke or butterfly in the Endless Pool.

Cost: Initial 90-min session is $200 and includes a 30-minute mini-clinic followed by about 60- minutes of water time with video analysis. Additional sessions are $140 per hour.

Karlyn can also meet you at the Kona Community Aquatic Center to work on:
  • Backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly!
  • Work on turns, streamlines or learn to do a flip turn
  • Instruction on how to use the pace clock and complete a workout
  • Teach you how to have more that just one or two swimming speeds!
