  Faster Freestyle Workshops

How would YOU like to swim faster with less effort?

The goal of every AQUATIC EDGE swim clinic is to have people say...

"This stroke makes total sense! After just one session I feel faster and I know I am spending less energythis is HUGE!"

Karlyn travels the WORLD hosting clinics and camps yearly. Why not host a clinic at YOUR POOL???

Karlyn is the absolute best at analyzing swim technique, providing feedback, and helping us truly improve our swimming. She makes it fun and we get faster!
-Pro Triathletes Mike and Amanda Lovato

Aloha Karlyn,
I just wanted to let you know how much your seminar has helped my swimming. My times continue to drop and swimming is much more fun! One month after taking your clinic I dropped 15 seconds in my 200 free! Amazing! Thanks!
-Therese O'Rourke

As a sponsor, what impressed me the most was how the teaching was so fast and effective for swimmers ranging in age from 15 to 60. I am incorporating her the methods and techniques in my programs at Charles River.
- Bob Boder, Head Masters Coach and Aquatics Director Charles River YMCA, Needham MA

Karlyn works with wide variety of groups including:
  • Triathlon/Multi-Sport teams and groups
  • Masters teams and workout groups
  • International Gay and Lesbian Teams (IGLA)
  • USA and YMCA Youth Swim Teams
  • Health and Fitness Clubs
  • YMCA's all over the country!
  • US Military Morale, Welfare and Recreation Dept. (MWR'S)

Karlyn has two core philosophies 1) keep it simple and 2) find a cure the "disease" don't just treat the symptom. Consequently, she is a master at breaking down some of the more challenging aspects of swimming technique into simple, practical and easy to understand terms that can be applied to any level of swimmer or triathlete, from novice to elite.

Aquatic Edge workshops will offer the following:

Step-by-step stroke progression
Emphasis balance, correct head and body position
Focus on swimming faster with less effort
Feel the power of a wide entry "early catch" stroke
Aquatic Edge cap

Inspirational Talk

Detailed descriptions of workshops:

4-hour Faster Freestyle with before/after video analysis
Cost: $195 per person

Aquatic Edge workshops start with an hour in a classroom-type setting (or similar) where Karlyn will provide an enthusiastic inspirational talk designed to excite and engage the students. She will then follow up with an interactive group discussion outlining the techniques she will be teaching, interspersed with viewing Karlyn's Go Swim freestyle DVD. After the classroom session, students will enter the water and for the next 30 minutes Karlyn will film and analyze the "before stroke" videos. The next 2-hours will be spent in the water starting with the basics, then gradually building into the step-by-step freestyle stroke progression designed to help the student become more aware of their stroke while helping them to create a faster and more efficient freestyle. This will be followed with a second video analysis of the "after" stroke. Once out of the water, Karlyn will wrap up with a short Q and A session. Total time is 4 hours. Special needs: TV/DVD player and a quite location (classroom, meeting room or quiet deck space), and at least two lanes of 2.5 hours of water time. Warm pool if possible! Minimum number needed is 6, maximum 10.

3-hour Faster Freestyle
Cost: $125 per person

This workshop includes everything above but without the video analysis. Special needs: TV/DVD player and a quite location (classroom, meeting room or quiet deck space) to meet for one-hour, and least 3-4 lanes of water time for TWO hours. Warm pool if possible! Minimum number is 10, maximum is 16.

We will start with an enthusiastic inspirational talk by Karlyn to get the students excited and engaged, follow by an interactive group discussion outlining the techniques covered in the workshop. Once we enter the water, Karlyn will begin with a mini Faster Freestyle workshop designed to help the student swim straighter and waste less energy. Then the focus will shift to skills, drills and strategies used in the open water including: sighting, drafting, evasive moves, warming up, start position as well as breathing techniques for all types of conditions and pacing suggestions. Special needs: A pool is an ideal location to host this workshop as the environment is more predictable. If held at lake or ocean, a beach that has a sandy entry and that is shallow enough to stand or walk for portions of swim and water that is warmer than 70 degrees. A shady area to meet before we enter the water is a bonus. Minimum number is 10, maximum is 20. Total time: 3-hours.

This workshop begins with one-hour in a classroom setting to go over the stroke mechanics and to watch portions of Karlyn's Go Swim All-Strokes DVD, followed by three thirty-minute mini-clinics, one for each stroke. Even if you do not know how to swim fly, back or breast, by the end of the workshopyou will! Coaches Clinics: In addition to inspiring and motivating others, Karlyn offers technical talks to coaches and athletes and is a three-time presenter at the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) World Clinic. Karlyn is available to provide presentations on a variety of topics for Freestyle technique, training and motivation. In September of 2015, she presented "Power Failure - Why Your Pull Lacks a Punch" and "Setting Up a Catch is as Easy as 1-2-3" at the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) World Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.

Consider a one or two day event that combines coaches and athlete workshops. Here is sample of a one-day coach and athlete workshop (may be spread out to two days):

Morning Session: Two technical presentations such as 1) Creating self-awareness in your swimmer, 2) Power Failure, Five reasons why your pull may lack a punch or 3) Setting up a catch is as easy as 1-2-3. Many other topics available or you suggest one!

Afternoon session: Back-to-back Faster Freestyle, Multi-Stroke or Open-Water workshops, three hours each. Attending coaches assist on deck administering the principles covered in the technical presentations earlier in the day.

8:30 AM Arrival
9:00-9:45 AM Workshop - Creating Self Awareness in your swimmer
10:00-10:45 AM Workshop - Power Failure! Five Reasons why your pull lacks a PUNCH
10:45-11:45 Lunch and Q and A with Karlyn (catered)
12:00-3:00 PM Faster Freestyle Clinic with coaches assisting on deck
30 minute break
3:30-6:30 PM Multi-stroke Clinic with coaches assisting on deck
7:30 Social event organized by host with an inspirational talk provided by Karlyn

Cost for the athlete's clinic (Faster Freestyle or Multi-stroke) is usually $125 per person. If the LMSC or club is covering the pool rent, I can offer a group discount for 15 or more of $95 per person and I would keep the registration fees. It would be hands free on your end as I would be able to set up the registration system online and manage the registration process.
